Teeth Cleanings & Dental Exams
Coming in for your regular teeth cleanings and dental exams is a key factor in maintaining a healthy, beautiful smile. By visiting our office twice a year for these check-ups, you’re ensuring your teeth and gums don’t have to face problems in the future like gum disease, tooth decay, or even tooth loss.
Another important part of your regular dental visits is receiving digital x-rays. Although these won’t need to be done twice a year like your teeth cleaning and exams, our team will use them at least once a year to check for any underlying issues.
With digital x-rays, we’re able to reduce the risk of radiation exposure while also improving our ability to diagnose potential dental problems. Digital x-rays have advanced the way we provide treatment to our patients and allows Dr. Kaur to create a more precise treatment plan just for you.
During your biannual dental appointments, our team might also recommend fluoride treatments if you’re at a higher risk of developing cavities. Fluoride is usually given as a liquid rinse, gel, foam, or varnish to help build strong enamel.
It’s quick and easy and will leave your teeth feeling more durable than before. We may ask you to avoid eating or drinking for the first 30 minutes after to allow the fluoride to settle in.
Another preventive treatment we offer for cavities is dental sealants. This thin protective dental seal will help prevent dental caries from forming again after we’ve restored the tooth back to good health.
Generally, dental sealants are placed over the back molars since these teeth are used for chewing. This stops leftover food and bacteria from settling in the teeth after brushing and flossing
Nightguards for Bruxism
An extremely common disorder that millions of people experience today is bruxism, or teeth grinding and clenching. When stressed or even sleeping, many people will unknowingly grind or clench their teeth, causing them to wear down, feel sensitive, or be in pain.
Dr. Kaur offers dental nightguards to help patients with bruxism. Similar to a sports mouthguard, a sufferer will wear these while they sleep to prevent them from grinding and clenching. During your consultation, we’ll create a custom mold of your teeth so it fits comfortably and is effective.
ARESTIN® Gum Treatment
Gum disease is an oral disease that can lead to tooth loss and other health complications if left untreated. Here at Village Dental, we use ARESTIN, a locally applied antibiotic that’s placed in a deep gum pocket to reduce the pocket depth.
With ARESTIN, we target the periodontal infection for up to months so your smile remains healthy even after your gums have recovered.
Oral Cancer Screenings
After you receive a proper deep cleaning at your regular check, Dr. Kaur performs an oral cancer screening. These screening will look for any abnormalities or other signs of cancer in your mouth and throat.
If we do notice anything, we will recommend immediate treatment so you can get rid of these abnormalities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you should visit a general dentist every six months, even if you take good care of your teeth. Professional teeth cleanings and dental exams will help ensure your teeth and gums are in good shape and that there are no hidden complications.
Call our Wayne, MI dental office for your biannual appointments and we’ll make sure to provide you with effective, lasting general dentistry treatment.
At your dental visit, we’ll clean your teeth and examine your mouth to make sure you’re healthy. We’ll remove any hardened plaque and tartar through scaling and root planing to ensure there’s no residue left behind.
We’ll also do a complete, noninvasive visual and physical examination that includes digital X-rays and an oral cancer screening. These help us assess your oral health and detect any potential issues before needed intense treatment.
If you require any special treatment, Dr. Kaur or one of our team members will let you know at your appointment. You can continue to maintain a proper at-home oral hygiene routine in order to take good care of your smile.
Simply brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush, use floss at least once a day, use fluoride or antibacterial mouthwash, and attend your regular dental visits.
