Are 100% At-Home Aligners Better?
Today, there are many clear aligner alternatives, where the entire treatment is completed right from home. Although these types of at-home aligners sound more convenient, they can actually be more harmful to your smile in the long run.
Without help from an experienced Invisalign® dentist like Dr. Kaur, your at-home treatment won’t be as personalized. Additionally, these types of aligners can worsen more complex orthodontic issues that some patients may have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Invisalign may hurt a little, especially when you first get a new set of aligners. It’s important to remember that your teeth are being moved around in your mouth, and this isn’t an easy or comfortable process.
The discomfort often goes away as you get used to wearing your aligners. Invisalign can be more comfortable than metal braces because there aren’t any sharp edges or wires to cut your mouth.
Yes, clear aligner treatments are often covered by insurance. To find out the details of your dental insurance coverage, we recommend contacting your provider directly. They can help you locate the amount of coverage you qualify for.
If you’re concerned about affording Invisalign treatment, Village Dental can help. We offer convenient financing options so you don’t have to worry about paying for your entire treatment cost upfront. Financing allows you to pay for your dental work in affordable monthly payments instead.
You can clean your clear aligner trays by removing them, then gently brushing the outside and inside with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Invisalign-specific cleansers are available, and they can help remove stains and bacteria from your aligners.
Make sure to remove your aligners when you eat or drink anything other than water because they can become damaged or stained. Before you put your aligners back in, you’ll also brush your teeth to prevent any leftover food stuck in your teeth or sticky residue from getting on your aligners.
It is possible for some people to switch from metal braces to Invisalign mid-treatment. Your candidacy depends on your treatment needs and your dentist’s recommendation. While Invisalign can treat many misalignment issues, there are some limitations.
The only way to know with certainty is to schedule a consultation for Invisalign and have a professional examine your teeth. After taking 3D scans and assessing your case, you’ll learn whether you’ll be able to switch to Invisalign.
Yes, Invisalign aligners are completely removable. That’s just one reason why this treatment option is so innovative. You don’t have to worry about what foods you eat because your braces won’t be in the way.
But it’s important to keep your aligners in for as long as possible every day because you’ll have to wear them for 20 to 22 hours. If you don’t wear your aligners enough daily, your treatment may last longer.
Clear aligners treatment generally takes about half the time of regular metal braces. While metal braces can take several years to complete treatment, invisible aligners take about 12 months on average. Your individual treatment time may vary depending on your unique needs.
Aligners take less time than braces because the metal brackets and wires can only put pressure on certain areas of your teeth. Aligners, on the other hand, put pressure on all surfaces of your teeth, allowing them to more efficiently move your teeth.
You can eat and drink anything during Invisalign treatment, as long as you remove your aligners beforehand. The only thing you can consume while wearing your aligners is water, as any other liquid or food can stain or cause damage to your aligners.
Always try to brush your teeth before putting your aligners in, so you don’t transfer food particles, sticky residue, or bacteria onto your aligners. This helps to keep them clean and maintains their invisible appearance.
